According to Don Quixote publisher, the new novel by António Lobo Antunes, A Outra Margem do Mar, succeeding A Última Porta antes da Noite, edited in 2018, will be available in bookshops on 24th September. «A Outra Margem do Mar goes back to the beginning of Baixa de Cassanje revolt, in Angola. The novel thus falls in the incidents that occurred before the colonial war, when large cotton plantations were set on fire, events that were crucial to the unfolding of the conflict».
On 10th September, D. Quixote publisher will also re-edit Os Cus de Judas, from 1979, and Memória de Elefante, also published in 1979. It will be the 39th edition of the first book and the 37th of the second one.
António Lobo Antunes was born in Lisbon in 1942. He studied at the University of Lisbon Medical School and specialized in Psychiatry. He was a psychiatrist for several years. In 1970 he was called up for military service. He embarked to Angola the following year, and returned to Portugal in 1973. In 1979 he published his first books, which transformed him. Since then, he has become one of the most widely read and discussed contemporary authors nationally and internationally. Lobo Antunes, one of the most awarded national writers, won last year the Bottari Lattes Grinzane Prize in Italy, whose jury is composed of intellectuals, university professors, cultural journalists and writers.
