Prince: As Never Seen Before is an exhibition of photography by Steve Parke, the musician’s art director for 13 years, who decided to share with the world the exclusive photographs he took to the artist, deceased in April 2016, throughout his career. The exhibition – from September 12th to November 2nd – can be seen for the first time in Portugal at Arrábida Shopping, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the entrance is free. In partnership with Iconic Images and curated by Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, the exhibition of 50 unique photographs, focuses mainly on the 1990’s, one of Prince’s most creative times. «The exhibition shows the most intimate and seductive side of the legendary musician from Minneapolis: Creative, playful, irreverent, extrovert, but also tender and the owner of an introspective genius. This is the result of the unique relationship between Steve Parke and the singer», says the curator. In addition to the exhibition, there will be other activities going on for two months. On September 12th, at 7h30pm, Steve Parke will present a book entitled Picturing Prince: An Intimate Portrait. On the same day, at 9.00pm, the fado singer Ana Moura (co-curator) will be the responsible for an intimate performance in a conversation record sung with Álvaro Costa and then, the film Purple Rain will be on display in the shopping centre’s UCI cinemas. Ana Moura will return for a second performance, on October 17th at exactly the same time. On November 2nd, the last day of the event, the film Rave Un2 the Year 2000 will be displayed in one of the shopping’s cinema rooms.
