The history of the Irmãos Chaves Group begins in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Young and dynamic, they entered the job market early on. They started with a van, doing transfers and excursions for regional travel agencies. Later, they purchased a bus for tourist transport. The tourism business was expanded. In 2003, they opened Quinta Mirabela – a property classified as heritage of historical or cultural interest –, a traditional Madeiran farm dating back to 1888, located in Caminho do Monte, Funchal, which was transformed into a five-star hotel, having maintained its original featurs and rich heritage. It is a tourism highlight in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, due to its important botanical value and ecological rarity. The hotel contains 24 rooms – 10 standard and 14 superior – all facing south and with views over the bay and the sea. The Refúgio do Monte is a peaceful restaurant for a perfect dinner, where you can enjoy regional as well as international dishes. Stephan’s Bar – named after the Stephan family, the former owners of the farm –, is the ideal place to enjoy a drink in the evening. If you fancy a light meal, with a view of the horizon, we invite you to sit on the Ocean View Terrace. Meanwhile, next to the pool area, the Tropical Pool Bar serves magnificent cocktails. At Quinta Mirabela there is also room to treat your body, whether in the gym, jacuzzi, steam bath, sauna or massage room, there is no shortage of reasons to relax. For those looking for tranquillity, there’s nothing like a little stopover here.

Later, in 2008, the Funchal Design Hotel came into view.A modern space, a city hotel, stood in the historic part of Funchal, between Rua da Alegria and Rua da Carreira. When it was restored, parts of the old City Walls – an example of historical preservation – were kept. These walls were built in the 16th century and are still partly preserved inside the hotel. In total, it has 16 rooms decorated in an urban style, eight of them with kitchenette. Traditional Madeiran dishes are served in Restaurante 560, at the entrance of the hotel. Nevertheless, the Chaves family decided to invest in construction in Madeira. The core business of the Irmãos Chaves Group also includes the management and administration of condominiums; a logistics and distribution channel, as a result of internationalisation; a vast number of standout works in the construction sector, both in Portugal and Angola; real estate developments, from the architectural project to the sale of the property; and more recently it has been committed to diversifying its economic activity, with the creation of a dental laboratory, a photography studio and a teaching academy; and in the area of agriculture it is dedicated to the production of cassava, oil palm, vegetables and fruit, in Angola.
