The BMW X6 was the great pioneer of the SUV Coupé, a model that meanwhile became popular. The first generation was a huge success and since then the Bavarian make has been improving the original idea. Now, this model riches its third generation and has renewed not only its design but also its motorized mechanisms. With a public presentation scheduled for September, during the Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW X6 is over 26 mm in length compared to its predecessor, 15 mm wider and 6 mm lower, measures that help to further emphasise its sporty nature. This model, however, is still in headlines, even before its presentation. The reason? It is due to the factvthat the German make has just shown the X6 with an exclusive pigment, which makes it the blackest car on the planet. All thanks to Vantablack, a new type of coating that can absorb up to 99.965% of the light, eliminating any reflection and, therefore, creating a level of black impossible to reach with other materials. The name results from the acronym VANTA (Vertically Aligned Nano Tube Array) and Black and it is, fundamentally, a substance of carbon nanotubes. This material, which was initially thought for the aerospace industry, came up in 2014 and was developed by Surrey Nano Systems. For now, this X6 ‘Super black’ is only an experience and it is unlikely to ever make it to the real roads. Nevertheless, Hussein Al Attar, the designer of the new BMW X6, has no doubt that this is a special coating.
