Founder and CEO of Eugénio Campos Jewels

He was born in Vila Nova de Gaia and studied Business Management. He founded Eugénio Campos in 1987, initially geared towards silver jewellery for personal use. But Eugénio Campos Jewels grew, expanding its range of products, from decorative silver, to gold jewellery and, more recently, two ‘jewels in a liquid state’. Eugénio Campos reached 30 years in his career in 2017 and is proud of the path he has taken, for having established a prestigious Portuguese brand in the world of jewellery, locally and abroad.

How did Eugénio Campos come about?
Eugénio Campos began operating in 1987, selling silver jewellery for personal use. In its second decade, in addition to silver and gold jewellery, we launched a vast collection of decorative silver on the market, boosting this field with hand chasing and sublime, modern and innovative finishes, a unique collection in Portugal. In its third decade we strengthened the jewellery segment by launching the jewellery and high jewellery segment on the market. We have also strengthened the segment of fashion accessories with two jewels in a liquid state, the Eau de Parfum ‘Gold Stone’ and ‘Gold Rose’, as the commemorative jewels of the brand’s 30-year anniversary. Communicating the brand strongly as a distinction from the jewellery itself, we have turned the Eugénio Campos brand into a leading Portuguese brand and one of the most prestigious brands in the sector.
 
You celebrated 30 years of career in 2017. What is your assessment of these three decades?
They were three fantastic decades of growth, consolidation, fame and prestige, which have allowed us to establish a Portuguese brand in the world of jewellery. They were 30 years of commitment, work, motivation and passion for the work undertaken. I look back on this career and feel pride, satisfaction, and say: it was worth it!

Where does the brand Eugénio Campos find its inspiration?
Essentially, it is inspired by its creator, by worldwide fashion trends and, in particular, by the Eugénio Campos woman, as the ideal of beauty and elegance. Attentive to enhancing women in society, the collections are designed for demanding, entrepreneurial women with a lot of attitude.

To what extent are technological advances important for the art of jewellery?
Technological advances are always important and in all fields. In the jewellery sector they allow us to perfect the finish of the jewellery, while never going without craftsmanship, as this is an essential factor in all jewellery pieces. The handcrafting of craftsmen is an art that gives value and uniqueness to the jewellery.

What consolidation and growth strategies has Eugénio Campos Jewels outlined for the future?
To consolidate the national market, and as part of our internationalisation project, our strategy is to strengthen the brand with innovation in the new collections that we permanently unveil. Presenting unique products is a constant, particularly in the segment of fashion accessories that complete the glamour of the brand.
