José and Gabriela Correia

CEO of JC GROUP and Racing Driver

José Correia, CEO of JC GROUP, a universe of more than two dozen companies, present on three continents, is an entrepreneur who shares, whether in his professional life or as a national motorsport champion, the same calculated risk, the prudence of the great leaders, but also the boldness with which, from the age of 14, as a student-worker, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Arlindo Correia, a reputed builder from Braga. José Correia is the father of Gabriela who, in just two and a half months, has already raced in five ‘Portuguese Mountain Championship’ races. She is known as the «Mountain Princess», given the way that she has adapted so well to the steep climbs of the courses.

José and Gabriela Correia
JC Group comprises a number of companies. In what areas do they operate?
JC GROUP is a global structure, of a family nature, but which has been expanded, having combined within it a vast series of profit focused companies, operating and intervening in several areas of knowhow and knowledge, and with construction and public works as its main economic area. We operate in six key areas of activity: construction / industry (environment), real estate development, trading, agriculture, hotels and motorsports. Our main motto sums up well what we are all about: ‘Building the Future’.

What are the greatest challenges facing the Group?
It needs to be made clear that the present and future strategy of the Group includes continued diversification of markets. In this sense, besides economic and foreign issues to the Group, we clearly have a structural matter of our economy / finances, which is related to the difficulty in accessing financial means in terms of capital, whether for investing or running costs. This is one of the greatest challenges, not only for JC GROUP, but also for any business group that has Portugal as its financing base.

Do you believe that the crisis in the construction sector has been passed now?
It is very difficult or impossible to give a conclusive answer. In my humble opinion, great care is required in investing, in all areas, because many and varied uncertainties remain. As such, overcoming the crisis or not will always depend greatly on factors that are not yet adequately stabilised. When I am asked about the crisis in construction, what I say is that I have never stopped working in this sector.

What is your operational strategy in foreign markets?
As much in foreign markets as in the local market, the strategy must always involve a very detailed and careful analysis of the investments to be made.

Gabriela, what most fascinates you and gets you excited about the automotive world?
It’s the adrenaline rush of driving a car at high speed. However, what excites me in this environment is the great passion I feel for motorsport; no other sport gives me such pleasure. I am grateful to all our followers, for all the motivation they give us, to the public that travel to the races to support us, and to the Vettra Motorsport assistance team, for getting the car in the best condition. Special thanks to my family, for always being by my side at all times.
