Very close to the famous and breathtaking Niagara Falls – where the mist and roar of water already predict its magnitude from a distance – we find Niagara Parks. Since 1885, Niagara Parks is the organisation, run by the government of the province of Ontario, responsible for the preservation of Niagara Falls, of the river and the surrounding region. More than a series of waterfalls or a ‘simple’ park, visiting this Canadian region, with its sights set on the USA, is an incredible experience, featuring nature, adventure, romanticism, winemaking, gastronomy and, of course, golf, hence the words that follow.

Flanking the mighty Niagara Whirlpool or the historic site of the Battle of Chippawa, the golf courses of Niagara Parks feature challenging layouts designed by renowned golf architects. Legends on the Niagara is the only public golf experience in North America and one of the most incredible, featuring 45 golf holes designed by Douglas Carrick and Thomas McBroom: two 18-hole championship golf courses and a nine-hole course.

The awe-inspiring Battlefield is located on the north side of Legends on the Niagara. Golf architect Douglas Carrick has created a unique 18-hole course that challenges golfers of all handicaps, with a pleasant blend of broad links, generous, rolling fairways and greens that are bordered by a dense forest. An artificial lake can turn into a pleasant ‘trap’ on four holes. For its part, Ussher’s Creek, also 18 holes, was designed by the architect Thomas McBroom and is considered one of his finest creations. Its configuration was literally defined by a stream, which adds to its natural appearance. Water comes into play on nine holes, which, combined with the wooded fairways, tests golfers’ accuracy. The nine-hole Chippawa makes a perfect complement to Battlefield and Ussher’s Creek. While seemingly easy, it should not be taken lightly, seeing as each hole hides a different challenge.

At Legends on the Niagara Clubhouse, a magnificent restaurant invites you to sample superb dishes made by chef Dan Willick.
