On top of Cais da Ribeira, in Oporto, stands a venue dedicated to gastronomy, where you can taste the wines of the house and the flavours of the land. The surrounding historic setting has led to it being called Casario, and it is now the work of four-handed cookery, provided by chefs Miguel Castro e Silva and José Guedes, right there in the Viela do Buraco.
Anyone passing by the restaurant knows about the treasure it holds inside: a magnificent terrace overlooking the River Douro. If luck is on your side, you can enjoy your meal at one of the six tables out on the terrace. If not, the interior provides a picturesque view through its windows, part of an intimate atmosphere that sits elegantly within the boutique Hotel da Gran Cruz.
The Casario wine cellar is home to more than 60 wines of exceptional quality, opening the door to the wealth of winegrowing, and more besides. From Moscatel and sparkling wines to Douro and Port wines.

Seasonal menus are created to accompany the meal, which will follow the rhythm of the season based on the principles of fine dining cuisine, which aims to emphasise the authenticity of the products and their seasonality. The concept is based on portions that can be adapted to everyone’s preferences, which doesn’t stop the chefs from making their own recommendations. Pork with ‘Migas de Paio’ and Savoy Cabbage or Gomes de Sá Style Codfish are two of the suggestions. They should be savoured with time and without haste. The wine selection includes Quinta de Ventozelo and, when it’s time to switch paths away from the savoury, we highly recommend the Almond Mille-feuille with Queijo Serra Cream. What a treat. The Chef’s Menu is another option, and it’s worth noting that this is blind tasting, as it includes five surprise moments, washed down with wine of the chefs’ choice. Apart from conventional meals, the evening seems like a good excuse to enjoy a couple of appetisers and an elegant glass of wine. Whether you follow the menu or not, you’re always in good hands.
We invite you to get to know a place that is characterised by its traditional delicacies, with contemporary details that make all the difference.
