On Sundays and public holidays, monuments, palaces and museums under government control will now be free for residents of Portugal. The new regulations also update the ticket prices for these sites under the supervision of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage. Free admission, not just on Sundays and public holidays, covers children up to the age of 12, as well as unemployed visitors living in the European Union, teachers, students of any level of higher education, among others. The growth in tourist numbers triggered the updating of the regulation, which has been in force since 2014, resulting in the adjustment and cancellation of some types of tour tickets.
