Tailor by Maria do Mar is a slow fashion shop and tailor for kids, that opened on September 5th in Alvalade. The project is led by Mónica Albuquerque who in 2014 opened a decoration shop and toys for children. Today, she owns an online shop and three physical spaces. This new space, with 120 m2, is at number 11 in Rua Acácio de Paiva and in spite of the fact that its decoration is vintage; it is far from being pretentious as it brings to our memories our grandparents’ laps, surrounded by antique wooden furniture, a sewing machine and an ironing board. The exclusive pieces give colour to this space that seems to come out of the past.
«We wanted to work with brands that did not exist and that would fulfil our matrix standard. We only sell fair trade pieces», says Mónica, adding «all clothes have no synthetic materials; we only work with cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. In addition to the noble materials, it is very important that these are clothes that help children to be more autonomous». There are five main brands at Tailor, both in the physical store and online: The Portuguese Piu Piu and Cherry Papaya, the French number 74 and Bonton and the English Caramel. «This is not a traditional Portuguese clothing shop, it's a timeless clothing shop, with no season. Here there is a search for absolute slow fashion», adds the manager.
